How CCTV & Coaxial Surge Protection Works
Coaxial lines are among the most vulnerable paths for lightning damage — exposed outdoor antennas channel surge energy directly toward connected equipment. A CCTV coaxial surge protector installed at the cable entry point diverts this energy to ground before it reaches cameras, recorders, or amplifiers. Without a coaxial surge protector, a single lightning event can destroy thousands of dollars of equipment.
Gas Discharge Tube clamps transient overvoltage within <100ns, diverting surge current safely to ground without interrupting the RF signal path.
After a major strike, only the GDT insert needs replacement — not the entire housing. Reduces lifetime maintenance cost significantly for large CCTV or antenna deployments.
The CCTV coaxial surge protector passes signal with minimal attenuation. VSWR <1.2:1 ensures impedance matching at all operating frequencies from DC to 6GHz — video quality is fully maintained.
Metal housing rated for harsh outdoor environments. DC pass configuration maintains power to active antenna elements and LNBs through the coaxial cable.

CCTV & Coaxial Surge Protector — Buyer FAQ
What is the difference between F, BNC, and N-type coaxial surge protectors?
F-type coaxial surge protectors (75Ω) are standard for cable TV and CATV distribution. BNC coaxial surge protectors (75Ω) are widely used in CCTV and security camera systems. N-type (50Ω) handles higher power and broader bandwidth (0–4GHz or 6GHz) for telecom and base station feeders. Choose the CCTV coaxial surge protector model matching your existing connector standard. See the coaxial SPD guide for detailed selection help.
Will the coaxial surge protector affect signal quality or camera image?
No. The TPKW CCTV coaxial surge protector series insertion loss is <0.2dB and VSWR <1.2:1 — negligible for all CCTV and RF applications. The GDT element only activates during a surge event and is fully transparent to the signal during normal operation.
Do I need to replace the whole coaxial surge protector after a lightning strike?
Not usually. The GDT element in every TPKW coaxial surge protector is field-replaceable — you only replace the internal gas discharge tube insert, not the housing. This significantly reduces maintenance cost for large CCTV or antenna deployments with multiple coaxial surge protectors installed.
What IP rating is needed for outdoor CCTV surge protector installations?
For outdoor use, IP65 minimum is recommended for any coaxial surge protector. The TPKW-F/75C-FF provides IP67 for fully exposed outdoor environments. All other TPKW coaxial surge protector models are rated IP65, suitable for most outdoor enclosures and pole-mount installations.
Can coaxial surge protectors pass DC power to active antenna elements?
Yes. All TPKW coaxial surge protector models support DC pass configuration, allowing DC voltage to power active antenna elements, LNBs, and tower-mounted amplifiers through the same coaxial cable while providing full surge protection.
What is the minimum order quantity for OEM/ODM coaxial surge protector orders?
Standard TPKW coaxial surge protector models typically have MOQ from 100 pcs per model. Custom branding or non-standard connector types may require higher quantities. Contact us with your project details for a specific quote and lead time.
